According to a new report from The Chosun Daily, the Chairman of Samsung Electronics, Lee Jae-Yong, the Chairman of Hyundai Motor Group, Chung Eui-Sun, and the CEO of Tesla Motors, Elon Musk, are going to meet for dinner this weekend in Paris.
Reportedly, the bosses of the three companies are visiting France during the 2024 Summer Olympic Games, and at the meeting, they could discuss next-generation technologies, mostly related to electric vehicle (EV) batteries, and explore cooperation.
Samsung SDI is working hard to start the mass production of solid-state batteries for EVs by 2027. These batteries can offer a longer range, a faster charging speed, and longer life compared to lithium-ion batteries in EVs. It is possible that the meeting could be about Samsung supplying solid-state batteries to Hyundai and Tesla to help them stay ahead of others in the EV market.
The story continues after the video…
Samsung SDI is also developing a cylindrical battery with a diameter of 46mm and a length of 80mm, which are the same dimensions as the battery that Tesla uses in its electric vehicles. So, it is possible that the South Korean tech giant could propose to supply those batteries as well to Hyundai and Tesla. But that’s just our speculation. Hopefully, we will get more details after the meeting.
